About

"The Third Place" launches a new program about cinema and invites you to the lecture "Shards in My Yard: What Does Russian Cinema Represent Today?" On September 30, film critic Sergey Dyoshin will talk about what contemporary Russian cinema is living through right now. The lecture will serve as a starting point for a series of meetings dedicated to the modern film process. Sergey Dyoshin will encourage a closer look at Russian cinema and show that behind the loud festival news are real shifts - new authors, fresh ideas, and unexpected trends. The focus of the conversation will be on the films of Roman Mikhailov as a reflection of the current time, the emergence of the "Mayak" festival in Gelendzhik as a new platform for auteur cinema, the decline of interest in Yakut cinema, which was recently considered one of the most dynamic in Russia, as well as the triumph of domestic debuts at the Venice Film Festival. The meeting is aimed at a wide audience: Dyoshin will explain complex processes in simple language, allowing even those who are not immersed in the film industry to see it from the inside. Listeners will learn how the career trajectories of directors are forming today, what is changing in production and distribution, which forms of cinema are becoming in demand, and which are fading into the background. Special attention will be paid to how Russian cinema is integrated into the international context: where it finds audiences abroad. This lecture will not only be an opportunity to understand where Russian cinema stands today but also a chance to prepare for the upcoming screenings at "The Third Place." Details about the meeting can be found on the venue's website.
