About

How did a tiny northern fort become the trading capital of the Arctic? The lecture on Salekhard - formerly Obdorsk - will feature stories of fairs, merchants, and the rich traditions of Priobye. A lively narrative will bring to life the era when furs, fish, and oil were sent from here to markets all over Russia. Salekhard, previously known as Obdorsk, occupies a unique place in Russian history. Once a tiny fort in the far north of Western Siberia, it transformed into a bustling trading capital of the Far North. How this happened and what lies behind the concise line in the textbook will be discussed in the lecture by Candidate of Historical Sciences Tatiana Koptseva. KudaGo presents the current program for Moscow.
