About

Participants will learn how the Nevsky and Pravoberezhny markets changed, why trading spaces became places of social clashes, and what stories are hidden behind the familiar phenomenon of urban trade. Markets have long been an important part of urban life: here people bought products, met neighbors, learned news, and formed daily habits. Behind the familiar image of trading rows lies a complex history related to economics, architecture, social relations, and changes in society. The meeting will discuss two major markets in St. Petersburg - Nevsky and Pravoberezhny. Their history will allow us to view trading spaces as a cultural phenomenon, where the interests of city residents, sellers, authorities, and various social groups intersect.
