The new "intellectual breakfast" focuses on Dutch and Flemish painting and how it unfolds in the halls of the State Hermitage Museum. From serious religious compositions of the 15th century to intimate genre scenes of the 17th century - in an hour and a half, listeners traverse the path from strict piety to subtle observations of everyday life. Lecturer Anna Stolbova, an art historian and teacher of world art culture at school No. 323, invites participants to view familiar paintings not as a mandatory "minimum program" but as interlocutors with whom one can build a personal dialogue. Using the works of Rembrandt, Rubens, and Van Dyck as examples, the discussion covers composition, light, gesture and gaze, as well as how artists tell stories through details, costumes, and secondary figures. Special attention is given to the so-called Little Dutch Masters - genre scene artists who captured domestic celebrations, conversations by the window, craft activities, and quiet moments of rest. During the meeting, the changing role of the viewer is also discussed.
