The lecture expands the usual view of Norwegian art: beyond Munch's "The Scream," there are the fairy-tale worlds of Kittelsen, the images of Vereshchagin, national painting, and contemporary authors. Norwegian art is often reduced to a single image - a troubled figure against a fiery sky. But there is a much broader artistic history here: landscapes, mythological characters, book graphics, national romanticism, modernism, and contemporary authors whose works continue to influence visual culture. In the lecture by art historian Tatyana Pelipenko, significant names in Norwegian painting from the 19th century to the present day will be discussed.
