About

The music at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries reflects the searches and experiments of composers. Participants in the lecture with live musical illustrations will discover how Romanticism in Russian music took on new forms. Well-known and rarely performed works by Tchaikovsky, Scriabin, and their contemporaries will be played. Listeners will immerse themselves in the era when Romanticism confronted new aesthetic trends, and the Russian school sought paths between national tradition and Western European influence. The program will feature not only famous masterpieces by Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Alexander Scriabin, Anatoly Lyadov, but also rarely heard works by Vladimir Rebikov, Reinhold Glière, and other composers. Each composition will serve as an illustration for the discussion on the transformation of musical language. The lecture will be led by Roman Chistyakov, a pianist, researcher, and educator. He will be joined by violinist and composer Maria Elina, a participant in international projects. This meeting will be of interest to those who are passionate about music, art history, and want to expand their understanding of Russian culture at the beginning of the 20th century. Entertainment in Moscow is collected on our website.
