About

The lecture will trace how the men's wardrobe of the second half of the 20th century changed under the influence of post-war life, jeans, cinema, sports, pop culture, and youth movements. Listeners will see the journey from the strict suit to casual style, brands, design experiments, minimalism, and a new language of everyday life. The second half of the 20th century radically changed the perception of how a man can look. The post-war strictness, business suits, social expectations, and familiar rules gradually collided with a new freedom: jeans, sportswear, rock bands, cinematic images, brands, and street culture. The wardrobe ceased to be a rigid status system and increasingly began to reflect lifestyle. The lecture will analyze key stylistic directions by decades. This will help to see how silhouettes, materials, colors, and the very logic of men's clothing changed. The post-war order was replaced by youth rebellion, then by a cult of comfort, democratization of fashion, and the rise of casual style. An important topic will be the transformation of the business suit: from a symbol of discipline and respectability to a more flexible form capable of adapting to new professions, cities, and rhythms of life. The lecturer is Nikita Zelepukhin, a personal men's stylist and clothing designer. Register on Timepad. You can find out where to go in St. Petersburg on our website.
