The lecture will introduce the everyday and social life of the city at the turn of the 19th to 20th centuries. The focus will be on fashion, habits, and cultural orientations of the metropolitan public. Guests can expect a narrative about the Petersburg environment at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century, where traditions and new trends intertwined. Listeners will take an imaginary stroll through the central streets, peek into iconic places for walks, shopping, and leisure, and see how the tastes and rituals of high society were formed. Particular attention will be paid to fashion as an important part of cultural life: from theater and norms of behavior in the hall to popular hobbies and everyday purchases. The discussion will also cover the spaces where members of the aristocracy and the imperial circle spent their time. The narrative will feature the names of famous dynasties and brands-from Eliseevs and Bull to Ralle, Ostromov, Bolin, and Fabergé, as well as the names of their clients.
