About

When talking about war, people often recall the front and reports, but behind them were always artists - with texts, music, roles, and an internal discipline no less than that of soldiers. The lecture will discuss how culture lived and acted during the Great Patriotic War. The occasion for the meeting is the book "People of the 1940s. On All Fronts," which collects stories of poets, actors, playwrights, and musicians who experienced wartime firsthand. Journalists Alexander Kobelyatsky and Margarita Shits will tell about those who wrote poetry in the trenches, performed plays in hospitals, and traveled with concerts to places where the stage was a mere concept. The focus will be on the fates of Konstantin Simonov, Olga Berggolts, David Samoylov, Rina Zelena, and others for whom art became a form of participation and survival. The authors will also share episodes that for various reasons did not make it into the book - personal, complex, sometimes unexpectedly quiet. The lecture at the Nekrasov Library will be of interest to those who want to learn the history of culture without slogans and generalizations - through specific lives and actions. Admission is free, but registration is required.
