The Moscow district of St. Petersburg hides a remarkable history: there was once a real canal here. When talking about the rivers and canals of St. Petersburg, the historical center immediately comes to mind. But the Moscow district was also once part of the city's "water" history. It was here, along the present-day Ligovsky Avenue, that one of the most important engineering structures of its time - the Ligovsky Canal - was located. It was created back in the 18th century to supply water to the fountains of the Summer Garden and became an engineering achievement - with its own aqueduct, bridges, and embankments. Today, almost nothing remains of it, but the history of the canal still lives on in the city's streets and names.
