What was summer like in old St. Petersburg? Some city dwellers sought to escape to the countryside, rent a dacha, and trade the cramped streets for fresh air, walks, and rural rituals. Others stayed in the city and looked for entertainment where artistic life thrived: in cafes, bars, restaurants, cabarets, gardens, and temporary pavilions.
