About

A lecture for those who are not satisfied with postcards of palm trees and stereotypes about rum. Lively stories about revolution and dictatorship, colonial past and modern Cuba, where behind jokes about sandwiches and ties lie serious conversations about people and their choices. Cuba has long lived in the collective imagination as a postcard with retro cars and colorful houses, but behind the familiar picture lies a much more complex history. At the Herring Club meeting, participants are invited to view the island as a living organism, where colonial past, revolution, and today's reality intertwine. The conversation begins with people. Guests can expect stories about politics, around which the global agenda has been built for decades, about a man who survived hundreds of assassination attempts and still passed away of natural causes, about alliances and betrayals that changed the fate of an entire country. Through these narratives, it becomes easier to understand why Cuba became a symbol of resistance and an experiment that the whole world watched almost like a series.
