Audiences can expect a musical journey to Italy of the 16th and 17th centuries with rare instrumental accompaniment. The program reveals the richness of early European tradition through vocals and theorbo. The program, dedicated to Italian music of the Renaissance and early Baroque, combines instrumental and vocal compositions by composers of the 16th and 17th centuries. Toccatas and chaconnes by Alessandro Piccinini and Giovanni Girolamo Kapsberger will be performed, as well as madrigals, arias, villanelles, and canzonettas by Claudio Monteverdi, Francesco Cavalli, Stefano Landi, and Salomone Rossi. A special place will be given to the madrigal Cor mio from Rossi's collection - one of the first publications to feature tablature for theorbo. This rare instrument, known as the archlute, appeared in Italy in the second half of the 16th century.
