About

Secret signs, closed rituals, and loud rumors - Freemasonry has long been the perfect ground for myths. Guests of the lecture will learn where the Freemasons came from, why they are so loved by conspiracy theorists, what their symbols mean, and which Russian emperors were associated with the lodges. Freemasons have long become the heroes of legends: they are called the secret rulers of the world, attributed with "codes" and immense influence. But the more rumors there are, the stronger the desire to separate fiction from reality and understand why this topic excites humanity so much. Historian Georgy Filatov will talk about the origins of Masonic organizations, their structure, and the language of symbols. Listeners will learn how the lodges were formed, what ideas they transmitted, and why there are so many suspicions surrounding them. Participants will also discuss the Masonic signs and rituals that are most often talked about and discover what stood behind them in the historical context. An important part of the conversation will be Freemasonry in Russian history. The host will tell who among the emperors was connected to Masonic circles, how Freemasonry is linked to the Age of Enlightenment, salons, the fashion for philosophical societies, and fears of "secret alliances." The current poster for Moscow is presented on KUDAGO.
