About

The story of Alexander Kuprin's love for two women is like a novel written by life itself. The lecture at the Gogol House reveals the dramatic and touching chapters of the writer's fate, full of coincidences, passions, and difficult choices. The Gogol House invites you to a lecture from the series "The Anthology of Love," where the story of Alexander Kuprin's personal life will be told - a writer whose works inspired entire generations. The focus is on the two most important women in his fate: Maria Davydova and Liza Geinrich. The fateful meeting of Kuprin with Maria Davydova took place in November 1901, when he, along with Ivan Bunin, visited the editorial office of the magazine "Mir Bozhiy." They were greeted by the adopted daughter of the hostess - a cheerful and lively girl named Musya, who immediately captivated Kuprin. That very evening, he declared that he would definitely marry her. And so it happened: just three months later, he proposed to her. But this was only the first chapter. Six years later, the writer married again - to Liza Geinrich, a modest and responsive girl who helped in the Davydov household. These changes in his personal life were accompanied by relocations, the challenges of emigration, and, later, a tragic return to his homeland.
