Rossi will turn out not to be a bronze classic but the author of a new urban planning language that we read every day. Petersburg knows how to speak to us through facades and perspectives. Just turn onto a square or stand on the axis of a street - and the city seems to build a stage. In the center of this theater often stands Karl Rossi. His projects have long entered the familiar route, but behind the familiar colonnades lie solutions that changed the rules of urban life. At the lecture and discussion, they will look at Rossi without the school "textbook." Where in his works can Italy be heard, and where does Petersburg begin? Why is the ensemble more important than a single building? How did the architect gather space so that it worked for people, power, rituals, and everyday life? The conversation will focus on the main ideas of classicism, on plasticity, scale, and that very balance that makes the city solemn and alive. The discussion will feature art history candidate Ivan Sablin and Proto-Renaissance specialist Irina Golubeva. Employees of the Hermitage, the Russian Museum, and the Museum of the History of St. Petersburg will join the conversation. The moderator is art historian Ivan Chechot.
