About

This meeting will be especially interesting for those who love theater and want to understand how classics continue to live on the modern stage. Shakespeare in the UK is not a museum figure but an active dramatic center around which a significant part of the theatrical repertoire is built. The lecture is designed as a practical guide for those who would like to navigate the diversity of British productions. Different directorial approaches will be in focus - from the Globe with its interest in authentic practices to much bolder and unexpected solutions, such as Phyllida Lloyd's "Shakespeare Trilogy." Listeners will learn how key British directors engage with Shakespeare's plays today, what characterizes their styles, and why the British stage never tires of returning to the plots of the great playwright. The host is Evgenia Gulbis, a graduate of the Master's program in Philology at RGGU specializing in "Comparative Studies (England and Russia)," and a lecturer in the series "The Lives of Shakespeare's Characters." Entertainment in Moscow is collected on our website.
