The group of artists who conveyed not the reality itself, but their impression of it on canvas was first called "impressionists" by journalist Louis Leroy in a feuilleton about the famous Salon of the Refused. The term, initially derogatory, took hold. Impressionism was born. The lecture will cover the origins and development of this movement, its key representatives, and their worldview.
