About

Dive into the amazing world of Ancient Egypt: from the clothing of priests to the ceremonial outfits of pharaohs. An engaging lecture with a screening of the film "Pharaoh" will unveil the mysteries of symbolism, fabrics, and styles of ancient fashion. As part of the archaeological film-lecture series, held under the initiative of the project "Open Days of Archaeology - 2025", a lecture dedicated to the culture and aesthetics of clothing in Ancient Egypt will take place. The guest of the meeting will be Sergey Ivanov - PhD in History, Director of the Center for Egyptian Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and a member of the International Association of Egyptologists. The focus will be on the dynastic period of Egyptian history. The lecturer will explain what everyday and ritual garments looked like for different social classes: from soldiers to priests and pharaohs. Participants will learn what materials were used to make clothing, what colors and fabrics were employed, what symbolism the ornaments carried, and how fashion intertwined with religion, power, and social status. During the lecture, excerpts from the film "Pharaoh" (1966) by Polish director Jerzy Kawalerowicz, based on the novel by Bolesław Prus, will be shown. The film is recognized as one of the most accurate visual representations of the New Kingdom era. If you don't know where to stroll in Moscow, visit KudaGo.
