The history of costume is a story about time, power, and people. An archaeological lecture and analysis of cinematic images of Moscow boyars will provide a glimpse into the fashion of the 15th-16th centuries through the lens of science and art. The final day of the archaeological film lecture series will conclude with an immersion into the world of fashion and culture of Moscow Rus'. The lecture, organized as part of the "Open Days of Archaeology - 2025" project, will feature Irina Yolkina - a candidate of historical sciences and a specialist in the archaeology of Moscow Rus' from the Institute of Archaeology of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The main topic of the meeting will be the costume of Moscow boyars of the 15th-16th centuries. Participants will learn about the archaeological finds that testify to the details of clothing from that time. The lecturer will explain what has been confirmed by sources and which elements are artistic interpretations. The analysis of cinematic images adds special value to the meeting. Participants will be invited to look at the visual representations of boyars in Sergei Eisenstein's film "Ivan the Terrible" and the series "The Romanovs."
