About

Archaeology is not just a science, but a real adventure. A unique meeting with researchers from Chukotka and a film screening about the petroglyphs of Pegtymel will immerse you in a world of antiquity, where every stone holds secrets of the past. The project "Open Days of Archaeology - 2025" opens with a lecture and film screening dedicated to one of the most mysterious corners of the country - Chaun-Chukotka. This is a territory where archaeological excavations are conducted in the harsh conditions of the North, and ancient images carved in stone are studied. The lecture by candidate of historical sciences Elena Levanova will introduce guests to the petroglyphs of Pegtymel - rock drawings that have reached us from deep antiquity. Participants will learn how modern archaeologists conduct expeditions in the extreme North: what methods are used to document finds, how hypotheses are formulated, and how images left thousands of years ago help to glimpse into the past. The meeting will be complemented by the documentary film "Petroglyphs of Pegtymel: Rock Art of Chaun-Chukotka," created by the Institute of Archaeology of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Where to go in Moscow today is known by KudaGo.
