About

How are cult images born? Why have Nikita and Mathilda become symbols? The heroes of Luc Besson live on the edge: between pain and laughter, tenderness and brutality. This lecture is a chance to peek behind the scenes of his directorial magic. Luc Besson's films are a unique genre. His heroes seem to be torn from another dimension: touching and dangerous, lonely yet incredibly human. From the crazy Lulu to the fragile Nikita, from the philosophical Leon to Mathilda - each character stays with us for a long time. Why? This will be explained by the lecturer - film scholar Asya Lev, author of the Good Old Movies channel. In the Open Living Room of Lermontovka, you will analyze how the director combines vibrant colors, unusual cinematography, and deep drama. Special attention will be paid to the aesthetics of Cinema du Look, Besson's unique style that is recognizable from the very first frames. You will learn how the signature sound design of his films sounds, how it emphasizes emotions and creates tension. Why do the heroes not lose their irony in the most brutal scenes? And how does the director speak about love, attachment, and pain through the lens of violence? Our website features the current program of Saint Petersburg.
