Political scientist Igor Grekov will present an author’s lecture on Georgy Gapon - a man whose name is inextricably linked to the beginning of the first Russian revolution. The lecture "Gapon. Pop Star of the Revolution" is a deep dive into the biography of one of the most controversial figures in Russian history. The event will be organized by Igor Grekov - a political scientist and author of numerous lectures and tours on the era of Russian revolutions. The lecture will raise an important question: who is Georgy Gapon - a hero or a provocateur, a sincere leader or a pawn in someone else's game? Listeners will learn why tens of thousands of workers followed him in January 1905, what drove him to such daring actions, and why even Vladimir Lenin felt uneasy before a personal meeting with Gapon. Special attention will be given to his post-revolutionary fate and how attitudes towards him changed in different historical periods. To attend the event, do not forget to register in advance on the library's website.
