About

The forts of Kronstadt are not just a part of military history, but living monuments of engineering art. Kronstadt is a city that has long been considered the maritime gateway to St. Petersburg. The Kotlin Island, on which it is located, is surrounded by almost twenty forts that have survived to this day. These structures have become not only symbols of naval power but also true monuments of engineering thought. Many of them were built during the reign of Peter I. The lecture "The Forts of Kronstadt", organized by the educational company "St. Petersburg through the Engineer's Eyes", is an opportunity to learn how and why the forts were built, which of them performed key tasks, and which were forgotten by time. Why were these fortifications necessary right here? How did they protect the approaches to the city? This and much more will be explained by engineer, local historian, and experienced guide Alexander Kizik. We share on our website where to go with children in St. Petersburg.
