About

The fifth lecture of the course on the hermeneutics of the body - a conversation about how spiritual practice changes the way of being oneself. The final lecture of the cycle on the hermeneutics of the body is dedicated to spiritual discipline. The focus will be on two books by Giorgio Agamben about monastic rules, "form of life," and service. They discuss the body as a way of existence built from repetitive gestures and duties. PhD candidate and associate professor at RGGU, Viktor Akulinin, will talk about the goodness and emptiness of the body, about humility as a form of attention, and about how rules make life distinguishable. The lecturer will explain what recursive form is: the body "in-forms" the environment around it and at the same time is "con-formed" by it, letting the world into its own habits, rhythms, and decisions. This means that the body is always connected to ethics, to the choice of relationships with oneself and with others. Where to go in Moscow today, our website will tell.
