About

Decembrists are often perceived as a collective image of the young generation that decided to oppose autocracy. However, behind the well-known date of December 14, 1825, lie personal stories, family ties, and individual decisions that changed the fates of entire families. The historical and local lore meeting in an old Moscow library addresses the fates of Podzhio and Likhaev - sons-in-law of the Taurida civil governor Andrei Mikhailovich Borozdin. Listeners will learn how the husbands of Borozdin's two daughters became involved in events that forever entered Russian history, and how their participation in secret societies affected them. The author's narrative combines documentary facts, local lore findings, and details of everyday life in the early 19th century. Additionally, guests of the lecture will learn about the work of the Decembrist Commission under the Union of Local Historians of Russia, which studies archives and family collections, travels to places associated with participants in historical events, and more. In conclusion, there will be a screening of the film "Cape Plaka. A Novel in Stone," dedicated to the Crimean coast and the memory of the Decembrists. The lecture is led by L.D. Shipilova, an educator and member of the Union of Local Historians of Russia. Ideas on where to go in Moscow are collected on our website.
