The Russian National Library is not just about books and catalogs, but also a tangible conversation between two architectural eras. The classical complex on Nevsky Prospect was created as a symbol of enlightenment and state grandeur; it is strict, balanced, and seems to be assembled from textbooks on the order system. The new building on Moskovsky Prospect was born from a different story: the city needed a modern, spacious, and technological space capable of handling flows of visitors and collections. Together with architect and guide Daniil Vedernikov, participants will analyze how the image of the library was formed in the 19th century and why it still influences the urban fabric. The discussion will cover restorations, engineering compromises disguised in decor, and solutions where functionality meets the modernist spirit without conflicting with the historical context.
