About

Three films, three perspectives on St. Petersburg and one era. At the "Community" there will be a lecture on how "Walk", "Piter FM" and "I'm Not in Pain" shaped the image of youth in the 2000s and turned the city into a separate character in the screen narrative. Film critic Maria Kuvshinova will offer a look at St. Petersburg through the lens of three key films from the early 21st century. In the early 2000s, Alexey Uchitel, Oksana Bychkova, and Alexey Balabanov made films where the city ceased to be a backdrop and became a space for personal searches - with wanderings on rooftops, meetings by bridges, and attempts to understand where adult life leads. "Walk" and "Piter FM" established the visual and emotional code of "Petersburg romanticism," while "I'm Not in Pain" became its unexpected continuation - with bitterness and self-irony. The lecture will feature a discussion about a generation that lived in anticipation of change, about a heroine with keys to someone else's car, about nameless streets where the most tender and confused stories were born. St. Petersburg will be presented as a space of freedom and dislocation. The number of seats is limited, so don't forget to register in advance.
