About

The program "Time of Kalevala" combines music and poetry, the national epic of Karelia, and original arrangements. The "Onego" orchestra, along with a reader, folk instruments, and powerful dramaturgy, transforms the concert into an immersion in myth and culture, full of emotions, symbols, and northern poetry. As part of the cultural forum of united cultures at the Chapel Hall in St. Petersburg, the program "Time of Kalevala" will be performed - a large-scale project of the Karelian State Philharmonic, combining music, literature, and national identity. The orchestra of Russian folk instruments "Onego" will perform a unique suite based on the Karelian-Finnish epic "Kalevala" - an ancient collection of myths and tales that has become a symbol of Karelia. The music for the composition was written by the People's Artist of Russia Alexander Chaykovsky, and the adaptation for the orchestra of Russian folk instruments was made by conductor Mikhail Totsky, under whose direction the performance will take place. On stage, together with the orchestra, will be the reader - the honored artist of Karelia Alexander Kartushin. His artistry and experience with literary texts will add depth and expressiveness to the concert. In the interpretation of the "Onego" ensemble, music and word will merge into a single stage canvas, rich in images and rhythms of the ancient epic.
