About

Music of the 20th century will sound like a lively conversation among several composers. When a chamber ensemble plays like a full orchestra, the listener experiences a rare sense of closeness to the music: each voice is heard separately, while all timbres intertwine into a single mechanism. The continuation of the cycle "Ensemble as Orchestra" is composed of works from the 20th century, where polytonality becomes the main plot - from concise miniatures to large-scale forms. In the first part, the cycle "Fragments" by Alexey Zhivotov for nonet will be performed. Then, two authorial versions of Francis Poulenc's cycle Mouvements perpetuels can be compared. Next is Jacques Ibert's chamber concertino for alto saxophone and 11 instruments. In this music, academic precision meets jazz flexibility, and for the soloist, it is important not just to produce sound but to engage in a dialogue with the ensemble. In the second part - a turn to the classics of the century: the septet by Igor Stravinsky, highlighting his interest in serial technique, and the Chamber Symphony by George Enescu for 12 performers - a final, mature view of the composer, written in Paris. The program is performed by the "Ascension" orchestra. Soloists: Polina Lepshova (saxophone) and Valery Gaivoronsky (piano). On our website, we tell about free events in Moscow.
