About

In the White Hall of the Lermontov Theater, scenes and arias from one of the rarest and most dramatic operas of the bel canto era will be performed. This music embodies the true tension of royal intrigues, political passions, and female tragedy. The emotional performance and historical context will make the evening truly special. The music of the bel canto era returns to the walls of the Lermontov Theater - and does so in its brightest manifestation. Scenes and arias from Gaetano Donizetti's opera will be performed by the artists of the Musical Live Theater, under the artistic direction of Tatiana Akaskina, accompanied by the concertmaster Yuri Goncharov. Created in 1834 based on Schiller's tragedy, this opera tells the fate of the Scottish queen caught in the center of political intrigues and personal drama. The confrontation between two women - Mary and Elizabeth - reveals not only a conflict of interests but also an internal struggle between feeling and duty, faith and ambition, honor and fear. The history of the production of this opera is dramatic in itself: the premiere at "La Scala" ended in scandal and censorship, and the role of Maria was performed by the legendary Maria Malibran, who insisted on including previously cut scenes. Subsequent bans deprived the public of the opportunity to hear this work for a long time, and it was only in the 20th century that the path to its return to the stage began. In Russia, the opera was staged only in 1993 - 150 years after its world premiere. The project is aimed at those who are interested not only in academic music but also in its history, rare repertoire, forgotten gems, and returned voices. The combination of vocal mastery, dramatic power, and historical significance makes the concert especially valuable. The event is held as part of the "Silver Age" project. Admission is free, registration is not required. The poster for St. Petersburg is available on KudaGo.
