About

Performed by the "Orchestra 1703" and featuring a reader, the concert explores themes of memory, resilience, and inner freedom through music and poetry. Dmitri Shostakovich and Anna Akhmatova are two creative individuals whose works reflect a complex and contradictory time. They are filled with reflections on human dignity, endured trials, and the ability to maintain inner strength even in the most challenging circumstances. At the center of the program is Shostakovich's music performed by the "Orchestra 1703" under the direction of Alexey Nyaga, as well as excerpts from Akhmatova's "Requiem," "Poem Without a Hero," and "Northern Elegies." This combination of different art forms helps to reveal common motifs in the legacies of the two masters: concern for the fate of humanity, the pursuit of truth, and the memory of events from the 20th century. The program will feature excerpts from the composer's string quartets arranged by Georgy Fyodorov and the Second Cello Concerto with orchestra. The soloist for the cello part is Andrey Zlokazov. We share ideas on where to go in St. Petersburg this weekend.
