On this evening, the music of Rodion Shchedrin will sound particularly sharp - in honor of the composer, his Piano Concertos No. 3 and No. 4 will be performed. They will be played by Daniil Sayamov together with the Mariinsky Theatre Symphony Orchestra. Two compositions - two different approaches to musical form and dramaturgy. In the Mariinsky Theatre Concert Hall, two large-scale works by Rodion Shchedrin - Piano Concertos No. 3 and No. 4 - will be performed. This special event of the festival "Faces of Modern Pianism" is dedicated to the memory of the composer, who passed away in 2024. Shchedrin was not only a witness but also an active participant in the musical history of the 20th century - and his works continue to reveal themselves to listeners in new ways. The performer of the program is pianist Daniil Sayamov. Together with the Mariinsky Theatre Symphony Orchestra, he will turn to two concertos written nearly 20 years apart. Concerto No. 3 ("Variations and Theme") is a musical puzzle, where the familiar structure is turned upside down, and the theme sounds at the end. Here, Shchedrin plays with form, rhythm, and intonation, allowing the pianist and orchestra to reveal a rich spectrum of sound solutions. The second part of the program is Concerto No. 4 ("Sharp Tonalities"), built on a delicate balance between virtuosity and inner tension. Shchedrin himself called this music an "orchestral kaleidoscope" - here, dance rhythms, sharp harmonies, and unexpected dramatic twists intertwine. In this work, it is especially clear how the composer combines tradition and innovation. The concert is addressed to everyone interested in academic music, its modern forms, and the living dialogue between the past and the present. It is an opportunity to hear rare works filled with the author's personal intonation and to touch the musical heritage that continues to develop even after the life of its creator.
