About

The piano evening combines the transparent elegance of Ravel and the inner drama of Chopin. In one program, shimmering textures, dance energy, subtle colorfulness, and grand romantic statements will meet, promising the listener a change of moods, clear form, and a very personal musical experience. This solo piano evening is built on a rare and very expressive comparison of two composers who work differently with the poetry of sound, the plasticity of form, and inner tension. In Maurice Ravel's music, the focus is on shades, delicate texture, precision of gesture, and play of light and shadow. In Frédéric Chopin's work, the breath of a grand romantic phrase, dramatic development, and a special freedom of expression come to the forefront. This combination makes the program particularly attractive: it allows one to hear how the same instrument can be both almost orchestral in its colorfulness and extremely confessional. In the first section, Ravel's compositions will be performed, revealing different sides of his writing. The Sonatina shows clarity of lines and precision of form, the "Morning Serenade of the Jester" adds an ironic, prickly touch, the "Pavane for a Dead Infanta" draws attention to the slow breath of the melody, while the "Water Game" impresses with its mobility and shimmering texture. A special place is occupied by the "Waltz" - a choreographic poem where a powerful, almost whirlwind movement gradually grows from the dance impulse. In the second part, four Ballades by Chopin will be performed - a cycle that for many listeners becomes the pinnacle of piano romanticism. In these pieces, epic scope, lyrical intonation, and almost narrative dramaturgy come together. Each Ballade lives by its own laws, but together they create a large arc, in which concentration, impulse, anxiety, and bright enlightenment alternate. For the audience, this is especially valuable: in one evening, one can hear both French sonic sophistication and Polish romantic depth.
