An evening with Dmitry Masleev dedicated to Rachmaninoff - a composer whose piano can be both lyrical and swift, and almost orchestral in scope. The program features etudes-tableaux, rare piano versions of romances, early miniatures, and a large sonata, revealing the music in all its depth and brilliance. The evening is built around the name of Rachmaninoff, but within one program, the listener will encounter several different worlds of his. There is the strict poetic nature of the early pages, the powerful concert energy of mature compositions, and a rare opportunity to hear piano transcriptions of romances, where the famous vocal melody receives new life. In such proximity, the music opens up volumetrically: as an art of grand gestures, delicate lyricism, and unmistakably recognizable intonation. At the piano is Dmitry Masleev, a pianist whose style is particularly well-suited to this repertoire. For the listener, this means that the compositions will be revealed not as a set of spectacular numbers, but as a carefully constructed path from miniature to large form. The program includes "Etudes-Tableaux" Op. 33, the romances "Don't Sing, Beauty, in My Presence", "It's Nice Here" and Vocalise in a piano arrangement, Elegy, Prelude, and "Polishinelle" from the cycle "Pieces-Fantasies", two numbers from composition 10, as well as Sonata No. 2 in B-flat minor. The evening is complemented by Rachmaninoff's arrangement of Mendelssohn's scherzo from the music for the comedy "A Midsummer Night's Dream".
