About

In December, musicians will gather at the Yeltsin Center to convey the festive mood through works by Cage, Schubert, Tchaikovsky, Karmanov, and Pelcitis. The combination of academic depth and light irony, solo and ensemble sound will create a delicate, almost cinematic canvas. As winter firmly takes hold, there is a special desire to hear music that holds the warmth of memories, sparkles with cold reflections, and promises light ahead. This is exactly what the December program from the "Wonderful Music" cycle will be, which will once again sound at the Yeltsin Center. Listeners will be greeted with a series of works, each of which is like a piece of a large New Year puzzle. Tchaikovsky's "The Nutcracker" in Mikhail Pletnev's transcription will appear in the glimmers of the frosty sun, while Schubert's single-movement quartet will remind us of the eternal themes of time and departure. John Cage's four-movement quartet will become a musical reflection of the seasons - with a quiet, snow-like third movement symbolizing winter. In contrast to these classical compositions, Georgs Pelcitis' "New Year Music" will sound - rhythmic, minimalist, and unexpectedly cheerful. The program will conclude with Pavel Karmanov's "Trout Quintet," which refers to Schubert's work of the same name but is filled with recognizable modern images - including a scene of "frying trout" right in the notes. This edition of the cycle features the Ural Opera Quartet - a group of four soloists from the Ural Theater orchestra. On piano will play a regular participant in the project - Herman Markhasin. This particular ensemble and the carefully selected repertoire promise to make the evening especially expressive, harmonious, and memorable. The concert will suit those looking for unconventional musical programs and wanting to hear rare, profound, and sometimes ironic interpretations of academic music. This event is capable of surprising even the experienced listener. Ideas on where to go in Yekaterinburg are gathered on our website.
