About

The concert by the band "Pictures for the Exhibition" addresses music as a living experience, where rock, jazz, author’s song, and echoes of academic tradition coexist. Listeners will hear recognizable motifs and new intonations born at the border of experimentation and sincere conversation with the audience, where familiar genres begin to sound anew. In the White Hall of the library, music resonates that easily reveals the intonations of urban stories, the voices of streets and memories. The band "Pictures for the Exhibition" led by Stas Barabanov combines rock, author’s song, jazz, and elements of academic music, creating a lively dialogue with the legacy of Russian composers. One of the lines of the program is connected to the works of M. P. Mussorgsky. His search for imagery, interest in "living life," and attention to the human voice became a starting point for contemporary musicians. The concert features Barabanov's original compositions alongside interpretations of well-known pieces, through which soloists and instrumentalists take on different roles and states. The composition of the ensemble allows for a wide range of colors to be heard: vocals, piano, guitars, bass, and cajón intertwine in a dynamic, free fabric. Here, every stroke is important - from pauses and breaths to the personal stories of the participants that emerge in intonations, unexpected accents, and changes in rhythm. Thus, musical narratives are born, close to both those who grew up on rock culture and those who prefer chamber concerts. Particular mention should be made of the participation of Daniil Sokolov, a soloist of the Saint Petersburg State Philharmonic for Children and Youth. His vocal style adds depth to the narrative, emphasizes the drama of the texts, and allows familiar melodies to be heard anew. The dialogue of the voice with the ensemble is structured as a chain of questions and answers, in which each musical image receives development.
