About

The program connects the organ and a large academic choir in a concert where baroque pages coexist with music from the 20th and 21st centuries. Here, contrasts are important - from strict spiritual concentration to powerful choral climaxes. The organ and choir is a combination in which the scale, depth, and architecture of musical thought are particularly clear. This program is built on sharp and expressive contrasts: from the baroque clarity of Bach and Handel to the large, tense sound of Orff and Jenkins. Such a selection of compositions allows one to hear how differently spiritual and choral music can unfold when it encounters strict form, a powerful vocal mass, and an instrument with almost limitless timbral possibilities. At the center of the evening are works that have long become an important part of the academic repertoire. The concert will feature Bach-Gounod's "Ave Maria", Handel's Passacaglia, "Crucifixus" from the Mass and "Omnes Generationes" from Bach's Magnificat, "Hallelujah" from the oratorio "Messiah", the choir "O, Fortuna" from "Carmina Burana", as well as excerpts from the Requiem and "Mass of the World" by Karl Jenkins. The program covers several eras and compositional approaches, making the concert perceived as a cohesive movement from inner concentration to open emotional power. A special role here is played by the combination of performing styles. The organ in the hands of Timur Khalilullin becomes both an independent hero of the evening and a support for the choral sound. His style is also important because he is known as a musician who can build conceptual programs and find a living connection with the audience. The Academic Choir of the Belgorod State Philharmonic, in turn, gives the program the scale and clarity necessary for such diverse material. The ensemble has long been working with serious repertoire, has performed at major musical events, and has managed to make a name for itself far beyond its hometown.
