The pre-holiday concert "Musical Maslenitsa" combines the traditions of folk festivities with the sound of academic music. In one evening, Russian and European composers, string and folk instruments, vocal numbers and instrumental miniatures come together, creating a sense of festive grandeur and lively communication. Maslenitsa week is associated with fairs, songs, and the long wait for spring, and this concert brings these associations into the space of the chamber hall. Here, the folk holiday is revealed through the sound of academic music: familiar names of composers coexist with rare pages of the repertoire, and the history of Maslenitsa becomes part of the musical narrative. The program includes works by Mikhail Glinka, Modest Mussorgsky, Johannes Brahms, Camille Saint-Saëns, Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Sergei Rachmaninoff, as well as Vera Gorodovskaya, Alexander Shalov, Alexander Tsygankov, and Aidar Salakhov. Their compositions are gathered to show how differently one can speak about joy, the anticipation of change, and inner composure. The Russian tradition meets the European school here, and familiar themes acquire new colors due to unusual instrumental combinations. The stage will be shared by the violin, flute, gusli, domra, balalaika, bayan, accordion, and human voice. Each instrument at some point comes to the forefront, then gives way to partners and supports them in the common movement. The change of timbres makes the concert lively and dynamic, and the transitions from lyrical episodes to dance numbers remind of Maslenitsa rides and walks, when slow conversations are interspersed with laughter and noisy games. The performers are laureates of all-Russian and international competitions, students and graduates of the Gnessin Music College and the Gnessin Academy of Music. For them, participation in the program becomes a continuation of their educational and concert practice, and for the audience - a chance to see how young musicians work with a rich heritage and incorporate it into a modern context.
