A jubilee program for the 120th anniversary of Dmitri Shostakovich will connect his music with works by composers whose influence is felt in his creativity. Dmitri Shostakovich's music has long become part of world culture, but it is especially interesting to hear it alongside the compositions of authors with whom he had artistic connections. This program is built precisely on such a comparison: works by Shostakovich will be presented alongside those of Modest Mussorgsky, Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Igor Stravinsky, and Sergei Prokofiev. Shostakovich worked in almost all major genres - symphonic, chamber, opera, ballet, and wrote music for theater and cinema. His legacy reflects various traditions: the polyphonic rigor of Bach, the drama of Beethoven, the psychological depth of Tchaikovsky, and Mussorgsky's attention to human characters and historical scale. His contemporaries also participated in this musical dialogue - primarily Prokofiev and Stravinsky. The concert will feature students and graduates of the Gnesin Music Academy.
