This chamber concert unites four centuries of music and four distinct styles. On one stage - exquisite piano and the expressive power of the string quartet. From the meditative melodies of Komitas to the tragic depth of Shostakovich - the program leads through emotional contrasts and musical worlds. The daytime concert at the Mariinsky Theatre Concert Hall will bring together pianist Mira Yevtich and the Komitas Quartet on one stage. This meeting of chamber genres promises listeners not only a rare performance in terms of composition but also a rich musical palette: the program will feature works by Rachmaninoff, Shostakovich, Mahler, Mirzoyan, and Komitas. Each selected piece offers an opportunity to hear different approaches to the sound of the ensemble. The concert will open with the first quartet by Sergei Rachmaninoff - a composition written in his youth and unpublished during his lifetime. This is rare material for concert halls, especially in performances by contemporary musicians. Next, the eleventh quartet by Dmitri Shostakovich will be performed - tragic, tense, built from short episodes and sounding like a dramatic monologue. In contrast, the youthful quartet by Gustav Mahler will follow: an unfinished yet remarkably mature work in terms of intonation. The second part of the concert is dedicated to Armenian musical tradition. The string quartet by Edward Mirzoyan "Theme with Variations" combines academic form with Eastern lyricism, while the "Armenian Folk Miniatures" arranged by Sergey Aslamazyan based on the works of Komitas will complement the evening with soft color and rhythmic inventiveness.
