About

Musicians will present miniatures by the French composer as part of a chamber program dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the death of Erik Satie, combining lyricism and irony. The evening will unite famous hymnopédies, gnossiennes, and vocal cycles, creating a vivid portrait of the innovative artist without whom the music of the 20th century cannot be imagined. The program "Masks. Pieces for Piano and Voice" will be a special event dedicated to the centenary of Erik Satie's death - one of the most unusual and controversial composers of France. His works are difficult to fit into conventional frameworks; they are sometimes lyrical and transparent, sometimes full of irony and subtle mockery. It is in this intertwining that Satie's unique style is born, which had a tremendous impact on the music of the 20th century. The audience will have a rare opportunity to hear his compositions in the context of biographical paradoxes. Satie, who called himself a "phonometrographer," seemed to distance himself from sound art, yet created a whole gallery of musical miniatures that changed the very understanding of form. His hymnopédies and gnossiennes, strict nocturnes, and parodic pieces became the foundation for a whole generation of composers - from Claude Debussy to John Cage. The concert program includes both early works - such as Allegro from 1884 - and later compositions created in the 1920s. The piano pieces are interspersed with vocal numbers that reflect the light theatricality characteristic of the author. The evening is structured to showcase two sides of his creativity: the lyrical - touching and fragile hymnopédies, and the cynical - caustic cabaret songs, bureaucratic sonatina, and witty parodies. The performers of the program will be Alexandra Sennikova, soprano and soloist of the Mikhailovsky Theatre, and pianist Elena Moiseenko, known for her delicate interpretation of French music. Together they will create a chamber atmosphere in which every stroke of Satie will sound clear and sharp. Entertainment in Moscow is collected on our website.
