About

An evening when word and music speak the same language: the vocal cycles of Mahler and Berlioz are followed by the symphonic grandeur of Schumann. The 'Northern Symphony' orchestra and soloists from the F. I. Shalyapin Theater, conducted by Fabio Mastrangelo, will show how drama is born from lyricism - from whispers to inner victory. Sometimes a concert is structured like a novel: first, the hero is left alone with himself, then the world expands to great feelings, and the finale sounds like an affirmation of life. The program for this evening is assembled just like that - from a chamber confession to a symphonic gesture. It opens with Gustav Mahler's cycle "Songs of a Wayward Apprentice." In these songs, one can hear anxiety and tenderness, road dust and a dream of harmony; the vocal line carries the entire plot, while the orchestra responds with shades of mood. Here, it is important to listen to the details: how the timbre's color changes with words about hope, how a simple melody suddenly turns into a compressed scream, and then again fades into silence. Next, they will perform "Summer Nights" by Hector Berlioz - six miniatures to the verses of Théophile Gautier, where love changes light, air, and even the pauses between phrases. This is romanticism without loud gestures: in one song - a slight dizziness, in another - the cold of separation, in the third - an almost weightless dream. Berlioz's orchestral palette works like painting: the line of the voice seems illuminated from within, while the instruments paint the space around. In the second part - the Second Symphony of Robert Schumann. The composer wrote it during a period of illness and called the work a resistance of the spirit, so in the music, doubt and perseverance, darkness and clear rays coexist. The symphonic fabric gradually gathers into a cohesive movement, and at some point, you begin to feel not a "plot," but the breath of great time - as if the steps become more confident, and the thoughts clearer. At the podium is conductor Fabio Mastrangelo, on stage - the 'Northern Symphony' orchestra and soloists from the Musical Theater named after F. I. Shalyapin. The combination of vocal cycles and symphony makes the evening diverse: first, the music speaks almost in a whisper, then expands.
