About

The concert of the creative association Mader nort will unite works by contemporary Russian composers who explore minimalism from an unexpected angle. Nastasia Khrucheva, Sergey Akhunov, and Pavel Karmanov draw on baroque, jazz, and romantic traditions, creating music where familiar forms sound fresh and witty. Mader nort will present a program dedicated to minimalism in new Russian music. This direction, born as an aesthetic of simplicity and repetitive structures, receives new life in the hands of domestic composers and transforms into a multilayered cultural code. Nastasia Khrucheva, Sergey Akhunov, and Pavel Karmanov are three different creative voices, but they are united by the desire to seek beauty and meaning beyond the familiar musical language. Khrucheva's work «Five Baroque Strategies» will refer to the heritage of the 17th century. Baroque here acts as a living fabric, subject to transformations and even "decay." Through the metaphor of alchemical treatises, the composer shows how old forms can become a source of new expressiveness. In Sergey Akhunov's cycle «Jazz», the improvisational nature of the genre will merge with memories of the circus and visual images of Henri Matisse. Here, sounds turn into bright collages reminiscent of the graphics and appliqués of the artist. This music is full of colors and rhythmic shifts capable of captivating the listener into a world of free imagination. A special place will be taken by Pavel Karmanov's composition «Second Snow at the Stadium». The composer states that he writes music for the ordinary person - for a trolleybus driver who wants to go home in a good mood. In his work, minimalist techniques serve to create a bright, sincere atmosphere. The program will conclude with Khrucheva's cycle «Russian Dead Ends». This is a reflection on beauty, inspired by harmonic turns of the 19th century and the music of Tchaikovsky. Here, repetition becomes a metaphor for infinity, turning "dead ends" into a kind of labyrinth of contemplation. The performers of the program are Lydia and Yaroslav Kovalenko, musicians.
