About

An evening at the Culture House «Rassvet» dedicated to the works of Kaija Saariaho, George Crumb, and Bernhard Lang - composers whose pieces connect the past and the present. Music for voice and piano performed by Ekaterina Imskova and Sasha Listova promises to be a journey through time and styles in a unified modern sound. At the Culture House «Rassvet», a special evening of chamber music will feature compositions in which modernity engages in dialogue with the cultural heritage of the past. Soprano Ekaterina Imskova and pianist Sasha Listova will take the stage, presenting a program composed of works by Kaija Saariaho, George Crumb, and Bernhard Lang. Each of them addresses the roots in their own way, transforming familiar motifs into a new artistic statement. The central part will be Saariaho's vocal piece «Lonh». The composer was inspired by a medieval Provençal ballad about love in separation, attributed to the troubadour Jaufré Rudel. In the nine-part structure of the composition, fragments of the ancient text intertwine in a sound collage, where the soprano voice becomes a guide through the centuries, and the minimalist texture creates a sense of fragility and transparency. George Crumb's music has always been characterized by rich symbolism and unusual references. His «Eine kleine mitternachusik» is a kind of variations on the jazz standard by Thelonious Monk «Round Midnight». In the piece, one can catch quotes from Debussy, Strauss, Wagner, and even a motif from Chopin. This play with styles creates a new layer of perception, where serious classical music coexists with jazz improvisation. The program concludes with the large-scale cycle by Bernhard Lang «Monadologie XXXII The Cold Trip». At its core is Schubert's «Winterreise», but the familiar intonations are refracted through prepared piano, electronic effects, and experimental vocals. Lang transforms classical material into a nostalgic palimpsest - with echoes of romanticism and modern sound techniques. If you don't know where to stroll in Moscow, visit KudaGo.
