About

In honor of the lifting of the blockade of Leningrad and the Day of Remembrance for the Victims of the Holocaust, poignant classical music, film scores, and works by poets who experienced the tragedies of the 20th century will be performed. Two dates that commemorate the victims of fascism are linked by the common day of January 27. In 1944, on this day, Leningrad was liberated from the blockade, and exactly one year later, the Red Army liberated Auschwitz. The participants of the concert at the Great Choral Synagogue dedicate their performance to each victim of those terrible tragedies, aiming to remind of the unyielding strength of the spirit of the survivors and the fragility of every human life. The chamber orchestra conducted by Maxim Alekseev will perform works by Tchaikovsky, Barber, Shostakovich, Grieg, and Williams (from the film "Schindler's List"). The concert features artists from the Youth Theater on Fontanka: Elena Solovyeva, Evgeny Klubov, and Sergey Yatsenyuk. Their performance will include poems by Andrei Voznesensky, Yuri Levitansky, Naum Korzhavin, Alexander Volodin, Vadim Shefner, and Stanislav Smelyansky.
