About

An acoustic meeting about the blues returns music to its first breath - voice, guitar, and harmonica. Evgeny Chemyakin and Alexey Bagichev will play songs of the classics of rural blues and tell how this sound was born - rough, honest, close to a living conversation, the road, freedom, and the heart of early rock and roll. Blues began with simple instruments, the human voice, and stories that were passed from hand to hand, from city to city, from one performer to another. In this program, the music sounds just like that - without amplification, stage distance, and unnecessary gloss. The guitar, harmonica, and voice become the main means of conversation with the listeners, and the close proximity of the musicians helps to hear every pause, hoarse intonation, string snap, and rhythm of breath. Evgeny Chemyakin and Alexey Bagichev, members of The Travelling Orchestra, turn to the rural blues of the first half of the 20th century. At the center of the evening are songs by Robert Johnson, Skip James, Mississippi John Hurt, Blind Willie Johnson, and other authors whose legacy influenced rock and roll, folk, soul, and modern guitar music. The story of the genre's origin is as important here as the performance: listeners will learn about the environment from which the blues grew, why it contains so much road, loneliness, irony, inner strength, and freedom.
