Two contrasting pieces in spirit and style will be performed by the young pianist, laureate of the Tchaikovsky Competition, accompanied by a symphony orchestra. The fusion of jazz energy and academic expression will turn the evening into a musical event filled with drama, emotions, and freedom. Petersburg pianist Ilya Papoyan has prepared a program that brings together two worlds - the expression of jazz improvisation and the tense virtuosity of academic heritage. Accompanied by a symphony orchestra, compositions created at different times, in different genres, and with different musical tasks will be performed - united by a passion for the piano as an instrument of experiences. The concert will open with Alexander Tsfasman's «Jazz Suite» - a composition from 1945, in which the spirit of the time and the individual style of the composer, who shaped the jazz direction in Soviet music, are easily recognizable. The rarely performed cycle for piano and orchestra combines characteristic rhythms, solo fragments, and orchestral shades - and in Ilya Papoyan's performance, it gains freshness and relevance. In the second part of the evening, Franz Liszt's First Piano Concerto will be performed - a large-scale, expressive, and brilliant composition by the Hungarian romantic. The concerto, written with the composer’s own virtuosic technique in mind, requires from the pianist not only technical proficiency but also a vivid artistic position. Ilya Papoyan is a laureate of international competitions and a bronze medalist of the XVII International Competition named after P. I. Tchaikovsky. A graduate and assistant intern of the Saint Petersburg Conservatory, he actively performs as a soloist and chamber musician, representing the Russian piano school on leading stages in the country and around the world.
