The concert brings together music that is hard to imagine without in domestic cinema: from Shostakovich and Pakhmutova to Zatsepin and Rezetdinov. Here, lyricism, irony, drama, and festive brilliance will meet, and familiar melodies will sound in a large symphonic format especially vividly, volumetrically, and emotionally saturated. The program is aimed at listeners for whom film music has long become part of personal memory. Some will recognize the intonations of their favorite films, while others will hear familiar themes on a new scale - already as independent symphonic compositions capable of holding attention without relying on the screen. The evening is structured as a broad panorama of domestic film music over several decades. The program combines works by Dmitri Shostakovich, Alexandra Pakhmutova, Isaac Schwartz, Andrei Petrov, Alexander Zatsepin, Georgy Portnov, and Leonid Rezetdinov. This selection allows one to hear how diverse the musical language of cinema can be - from Shakespearean dramatic intensity to bright lyricism, from subtle irony to vibrant festivity. For the audience, this is a rare opportunity to traverse a whole spectrum of moods and see how composers helped directors create characters, rhythm, and internal tension in scenes. Special attention will be given to pages related to "Hamlet," "The Girls," "Melodies of the White Nights," "Autumn Marathon," "Petersburg Secrets," as well as films for which Alexander Zatsepin composed the music. The final part is dedicated to his centenary, adding a clear festive accent to the concert. At the same time, listeners will also get acquainted with the works of Leonid Rezetdinov: "Three Film Sketches" from the film "To the Edge of the World" and the theatrical-orchestral suite "Chaplin" will be performed. Thanks to this proximity, the program avoids a museum-like quality and shows that domestic film music continues to live, develop, and find new resonance. The performance is by the Symphony Orchestra of the St. Petersburg Capella under the direction of Ivan Stolbov, with musicologist Larisa Popkova as the program's author and host.
