There is music that retains its form for centuries while sounding alive, as if it were written yesterday. At the center of the program are Brandenburg Concertos No. 2 and No. 3, created by J.S. Bach in 1721 in Köthen for Margrave Christian Ludwig of Brandenburg. These scores were found in his library with a French dedication, and today they still amaze with the precision and freedom of orchestral writing. In the second concerto, the play of contrasts and virtuosic lines is audible: here it is important how the instruments interact and how the rhythmic tension changes. The third is built on strict logic and clear energy of the ensemble - it particularly highlights Bach's ability to gather complexity into a transparent pattern. The finale will be the Trio Sonata in C minor from the cycle "Musical Offering," based on a theme proposed to Bach by King Frederick II of Prussia. The composer himself encoded the idea of the cycle in an acrostic that spells the word "ricercar," and this intellectual excitement is heard on every page.
